News & Reviews:

JULY 13, 2010  I'm in the middle of reading DOOMWAR, a fantastic 6 issue mini series with Dr Doom going after all the vibranium in Wakanda... and getting it. Now the good guys, Fantastic Four, T'Challa and assorted heroes are desperately trying to get it back before Doom can use the mystical aspect of the metal to gain untold power. So to help them out and introduce a variable of craziness into the scenario that Doom can't predict, T'Challa hires our favorite mercenary, Deadpool. T'Challa asks, "Do you know anything about science, Mr Wilson?" And Deadpool replies, (this is SO funny) "I have every episode of Star Trek, the classic. Not the one with the  bald guy that looks like Professor X."  I tell you, that one line is worth buying the whole mini series.

JULY 9, 2010  Just finished reading SHADOWLAND starring Daredevil in a sexy new costume. The last panel is one I thought I'd never see. Daredevil is heading down a dark path but he's doing what he can to fight incredible odds. It'll be interesting to see how the rest of the story line reads out.

JULY 2, 2010  More thoughts on the subject. Did you know that when the Colonies won their independence from England, they offered George Washington the crown of America?  Yes, he could've been king.  But George had a vision or he just wanted to go home, so he refused the offer and thus we got presidents instead of a royal family. Of course they still couldn't let George go, so he got to be the first president of this grand experiment.  When Adams came in as the second president, it was the first time in history there was a major change of government without bloodshed. How about that! The experiment worked.  The American Revolution is a fascinating collection of little stories that show the hand of God in the formation of this country. Weather, British decisions, so many things led to the Colonists managing to win when there was really no way they could. But they did. They lost lives and property to bring forth an ideal and it's up to us to keep that ideal alive.

JULY 2, 2010  We're headed for an important holiday, one of the most important with consequences felt around the world. Yes, I'm talking about the 4th of July, a day that's celebrates something that had never been done before. Before the American colonies broke away from England, no other colonY had ever done that. Plus it was a rag tag crew going up against the best and most disciplined army in the world. Not to mention the British navy. But somehow, though it took years and lives, they managed to do it and thus was born the United States Of America. A very strange country, one made up of a hodge podge of customs and cultures, a place where it is your right to speak out, your right to pick your own religion.  It may not be perfect, but I've traveled around and I'm proud to call this country my own.

MAY 7  Free Comic Book Day was Saturday and what a day it was!!  Lots of people stopped by to pick up free comic books and cookies, then hang around for the drawings.  I got to meet a lot of new people who hopefully had a good time and will be back. Now I have to put everything away.

APRIL 30 - Last day of my birthday month. Sigh. However, we're gearing up for the FREE COMIC BOOK DAY which is this Saturday, MAY 2. There will be free comics books and cookies and door prizes. It is THE social event of the season so don't miss it!  My whole family is pitching in to help me out with this and it's going to be quite a day. I'm so looking forward to it. See you there!

APRIL 2  It's April! It's Spring!  Why isn't it acting like spring?  It's also my birthday month, so be sure and wish me a happy birthday when you see me.  The shop is painted and at least it's bright and cheery whereas outside it is grey and cold. Come on down and see the remodel. Don't forget May 2nd is FREE COMIC BOOK DAY!! Besides free comic books, there's going to be cookies and punch. It's THE social event of the season, so don't miss it.

March 6, 2009  Work on the shop is proceeding, lots of painting and rearranging has been going on and I think it's looking pretty good. The ideas came from my sister, Alexa, who has her architectural degree and can walk into a room and just see the possibilities.  She's worked very hard over the past couple of weeks on all these changes and it shows. I also have to thank my Mother who has contributed her time, effort and carpet to spruce up the place. My nephew, Fletcher, and his mom, Kim, helped moved stuff, especially the action figures. Fletcher helped paint and so did his younger brother, Drew.  His dad, my brother, helped move furniture. My father brought his power tools and did all the constructing that needed constructed. Greg, my former boss, stopped by and contributed muscle power and woodworking expertise to this project. It's been a merry crew. Now I'm down to the the annoying last little details that never seem to get done because every time you turn around, there's another pile of stuff that needs to go someplace. So put it in your plans to stop by and see the place. If nothing else, it's colorful!

December 17, 2008  As I sit here shivering in the cold after scraping frost off the car, it makes me wonder... Where is this global warning they keep whining about???  It used to only snow every 4 to 5 years or so around here and we've had snow for the last 3 years!!  I haven't noticed it getting warmer.  They go on about carbon footprints and such, but have you checked the weather back east in the mid-west?  North Dakota was down to 50 below!!  I'll have to go thank the Parents for moving out of Nebraska again.

December 12, 2008  Welcome to the one month anniversary!  Altho a couple of my favorite titles are ending, there's some new interesting ones coming. Check out the WHAT'S NEW on the main page to find out what.  On the sad side, Betty Page has passed on from this world. She was 85. They interviewed her a couple years ago and she had no idea that she had become the icon she is. We've lost a very interesting person.

11-15-08  Hello everyone!!  My name is Kate Payne and I'm the new proud owner of Comics Unlimited.  Nick is here teaching me everything he knows, so be patient with me, I'm in a major learning mode.  I intend on keeping up the same great services we know and love with Nick. Just let me know what you want and I'll do my best to get it for you. This is a bold new venture for me, my very first business. I've been collecting comic books for a long time now and I intend to continue collecting comic books, so I'll be working hard to make this a continued success. The next few months should be interesting.

11-8-08  Well, today is my final day as owner of Comics Unlimited. I am a bit sad but also really looking forward to my retirement and being able to travel and spend more time with my lovely wife Roselyn, and grandson Nathan while in California. I wish to take this time to thank each and everyone of you who became part of my life during the past 15 years. Without you I would have closed my doors many moons ago. I am also thankful I was able to find a local buyer for Comics Unlimited that would keep it here and give it the same quality of care I have over the past years. Please continue to support Kate Payne as you have done me and Comics Unlimited will remain strong over the next 15 years. Goodbye and good luck!!  Nick Hughes  :-)
